Samuel Atta Mensah, Managing Director of Citi News, has lambasted National Security operatives who arrested and subjected Citi News journalists; Caleb Kudah and Zoe Abu Baidoo to severe beatings over a recording.
Narrating the turn of events on top political show, The Point of View, Mr Attah Mensah explained how one Lt Col Agyemang would not even listen to them in a desperate attempt to clarify issues.
According to him, he was blocked by the National Security operatives who had earlier seized the gadgets of the journalists after which they brutalized the journalists.
“It is about time that Security Operatives in this country realized that one government cannot be in power forever. This revolution style of security execution is outmoded. Ghana is now a democracy. Even if you claim my journalists or any suspect for that matter had erred, do you subject them to such torture?
“That Col Agyemang should know that he will not forever be there. Some time in future he may not be in power to mete out such crude treatment to people. How can you be kicking some one’s son in the groin? You should know that God will deal with you and your family,” the Managing Director of Citi News fumed.
He however indicated that a top rank officer who finally intervened, exhibited high standards in carrying out his duties.
Obviously shaken by the experience, Caleb Kudah one of victims shared a heartbreaking message his father sent him after he was released.
“My son, you have to put your family first,” were my father’s remarks. To wit, “I should quit journalism as the work is becoming dangerous”, he said.
The two journalists have since been released.
