Govt resourcing vigilante groups, instead of police ahead of polls – Mahama

The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama has accused the incumbent government of equipping vigilante groups instead of the security agencies.

According to him, this has amounted to a surge in robbery attacks in Yendi and its adjoining communities in the Northern Region.https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?guci=2.2.0.0.2.2.0.0&client=ca-pub-6034552436546687&output=html&h=280&adk=144910138&adf=2988467607&pi=t.aa~a.2067693828~i.3~rp.4&w=750&fwrn=4&fwrnh=100&lmt=1606467064&num_ads=1&rafmt=1&armr=3&sem=mc&pwprc=4282796847&psa=1&ad_type=text_image&format=750×280&url=https%3A%2F%2Fcitinewsroom.com%2F2020%2F11%2Fgovernment-resourcing-vigilante-groups-instead-of-police-ahead-of-polls-mahama%2F&flash=0&fwr=0&pra=3&rh=188&rw=750&rpe=1&resp_fmts=3&wgl=1&fa=27&adsid=ChEIgOSC_gUQ8_CmxtPT3YXKARJIAKhvVQuNftvHwIqARxhPtABW35ZFwLIYS4B-O1_6b5884zQWLgBtQqvJSSkCndqyh41KkyOBKY3KN_pG_sHn1zGlkwRoqeHL&tt_state=W3siaXNzdWVyT3JpZ2luIjoiaHR0cHM6Ly9hZHNlcnZpY2UuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbSIsInN0YXRlIjowfSx7Imlzc3Vlck9yaWdpbiI6Imh0dHBzOi8vYXR0ZXN0YXRpb24uYW5kcm9pZC5jb20iLCJzdGF0ZSI6MH1d&dt=1606470718412&bpp=4&bdt=16297&idt=4&shv=r20201112&cbv=r20190131&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie=ID%3D7f50becf00e645b2-22efd9ba6ca6009b%3AT%3D1605259108%3ART%3D1605259108%3AS%3DALNI_MawTfysM_GmZclhAsMOwa6exgfzKg&prev_fmts=728×90%2C728x90%2C0x0&nras=2&correlator=1363379297245&frm=20&pv=1&ga_vid=1647050318.1596457113&ga_sid=1606470715&ga_hid=2019930616&ga_fc=0&iag=0&icsg=2966495256641532&dssz=64&mdo=0&mso=0&u_tz=0&u_his=50&u_java=0&u_h=768&u_w=1366&u_ah=728&u_aw=1366&u_cd=24&u_nplug=3&u_nmime=4&adx=105&ady=1690&biw=1349&bih=657&scr_x=0&scr_y=0&oid=3&psts=AGkb-H9C_1jpV8jTLRqt5sWZjbN8Mcwq4oUopVWmQOwcgs6YcE9ubv7QavhdHW79zDSv&pvsid=267430976234641&pem=537&ref=https%3A%2F%2Fcitinewsroom.com%2F&rx=0&eae=0&fc=384&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C1366%2C0%2C1366%2C728%2C1366%2C657&vis=1&rsz=%7C%7Cs%7C&abl=NS&fu=8320&bc=31&jar=2020-11-25-16&ifi=4&uci=a!4&btvi=1&fsb=1&xpc=QzxkOI7Wio&p=https%3A//citinewsroom.com&dtd=360

“Now instead of equipping the police with weapons, bulletproof vests and the things they need to fight the armed robbers, they are using those weapons and bulletproof vests and vehicles to give to their vigilantes to terrorize Ghanaians,” Mr. Mahama said while addressing a rally at Yendi.

He added that the NDC must be voted for in the upcoming elections as the party is ready to deal with insecurities in the country.

“It is when NDC is in power that we feel safe and secure. Anytime the NDC leaves power, we have an upsurge in an armed robbery,” the NDC flagbearer said, though he did no back it with evidence.

“Today you can’t travel freely in this part of the country without the fear of falling into the hands of armed robbers,” he added.https://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/ads?guci=2.2.0.0.2.2.0.0&client=ca-pub-6034552436546687&output=html&h=280&adk=144910138&adf=3937686276&pi=t.aa~a.2067693828~i.11~rp.4&w=750&fwrn=4&fwrnh=100&lmt=1606467064&num_ads=1&rafmt=1&armr=3&sem=mc&pwprc=4282796847&psa=1&ad_type=text_image&format=750×280&url=https%3A%2F%2Fcitinewsroom.com%2F2020%2F11%2Fgovernment-resourcing-vigilante-groups-instead-of-police-ahead-of-polls-mahama%2F&flash=0&fwr=0&pra=3&rh=188&rw=750&rpe=1&resp_fmts=3&wgl=1&fa=27&adsid=ChEIgOSC_gUQ8_CmxtPT3YXKARJIAKhvVQuNftvHwIqARxhPtABW35ZFwLIYS4B-O1_6b5884zQWLgBtQqvJSSkCndqyh41KkyOBKY3KN_pG_sHn1zGlkwRoqeHL&tt_state=W3siaXNzdWVyT3JpZ2luIjoiaHR0cHM6Ly9hZHNlcnZpY2UuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbSIsInN0YXRlIjowfSx7Imlzc3Vlck9yaWdpbiI6Imh0dHBzOi8vYXR0ZXN0YXRpb24uYW5kcm9pZC5jb20iLCJzdGF0ZSI6MH1d&dt=1606470718424&bpp=3&bdt=16309&idt=3&shv=r20201112&cbv=r20190131&ptt=9&saldr=aa&abxe=1&cookie=ID%3D7f50becf00e645b2-22efd9ba6ca6009b%3AT%3D1605259108%3ART%3D1605259108%3AS%3DALNI_MawTfysM_GmZclhAsMOwa6exgfzKg&prev_fmts=728×90%2C728x90%2C0x0%2C750x280&nras=3&correlator=1363379297245&frm=20&pv=1&ga_vid=1647050318.1596457113&ga_sid=1606470715&ga_hid=2019930616&ga_fc=0&iag=0&icsg=2966495256641532&dssz=64&mdo=0&mso=0&u_tz=0&u_his=50&u_java=0&u_h=768&u_w=1366&u_ah=728&u_aw=1366&u_cd=24&u_nplug=3&u_nmime=4&adx=105&ady=2284&biw=1349&bih=657&scr_x=0&scr_y=0&oid=3&psts=AGkb-H9C_1jpV8jTLRqt5sWZjbN8Mcwq4oUopVWmQOwcgs6YcE9ubv7QavhdHW79zDSv&pvsid=267430976234641&pem=537&ref=https%3A%2F%2Fcitinewsroom.com%2F&rx=0&eae=0&fc=384&brdim=0%2C0%2C0%2C0%2C1366%2C0%2C1366%2C728%2C1366%2C657&vis=1&rsz=%7C%7Cs%7C&abl=NS&cms=2&fu=8320&bc=31&jar=2020-11-25-16&ifi=5&uci=a!5&btvi=2&fsb=1&xpc=beVSJt850m&p=https%3A//citinewsroom.com&dtd=364

During a community engagement with the people of Wulensi in the Northern Region, the Minority Leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, also accused the government of plans to recruit over a thousand unprofessional police officers ahead of the elections

Haruna Iddrisu alleged that the government wants to “unleash them to terrorise Ghanaians.”

“Nana Akufo-Addo and the Inspector General Police are planning to commission 1,800 police officers tomorrow who have not been properly trained and who have been trained below the minimum requirement of six months intensive training.”

Mr. Idrissu also said the recruitment was not advertised by the police administration.

“Where did he get them from because they will be paid from public resources?”
