Hajia Fati’s assault case exaggerated – Effah Dartey
Counsel for embattled Hajia Fati, Nkrabea Effah Dartey, says the case involving the NPP loyalist and Adom FM reporter Ohemaa Sekyiwaa has been overly exaggerated.
“I read the full report of police investigation and sincerely, it merely recounted and scuffle between the two on the day Sammy Crabbe turned up at the NPP headquarters to pick a form to contest in the upcoming national executives elections.
“The Adom FM reporter attempted to take a photo of her leading to the slap, this is the whole story; but the media rigorously started a media trail against my client even before she was charged,” he asserted, in an interview with Okay FM on Tuesday morning.
According to Mr. Dartey, some media outlets reported the incident to suggest the reporter was severely brutalized by the NPP faithful.
“The issue has been blown out of proportion, but thankfully, we encountered a sober judge presiding over the case and hence has granted my client a bail at GHC10, 000.00 with one surety,” he added.
Hajia Fati has pleaded not guilty of the charges of assault and damage to property leveled against her by the state.
The case has been adjourned to June 18.
Hajia Fati is standing trial for allegedly slapping Adom FM’s Ohemaa Sekyiwaa who was covering events at the NPP’s headquarters on Friday, 4 May 2018.
On Wednesday, 9 May 2018, the NPP loyalist rendered an unqualified apology to the victim and Ghanaian journalists in general.
But the multimedia group stated that her apology would not be accepted and will ensure that Hajia Fati is prosecuted.
