Heavy rains flood Kejetia market, destroy wares

The ground floor of the New Kumasi Kejetia Market was flooded, following Thursday’s evening heavy downpour.

The four-hour rains flooded the trader’s shops, destroying the wares of traders.

The transport terminals of the market were also flooded.

The administration block of the market was not spared as the control room, manager’s office among other offices were submerged in water.

The cleaners of the market had to spend some hours wiping the ground floor and the offices of the market of flood waters.

Affected traders who expressed unhappiness with the flooded market said their wares worth hundreds of Ghana cedis were destroyed by the flood.

They appealed to government and the National Disaster Management Organisation to come to their aid.

Meanwhile, a 60-year-old woman has been feared drowned in the Susan river at Anloga in the Oforikrom Municipality.

The woman, together with three other people, was said to be crossing the river where the wooden bridge they were using collapsed and landed them into the river.

The three people were said to have swum to their safety but the woman could not.
