How Ken Ofori-Atta Has Rendered Atta Akyea Useless

It was Theodore Roosevelt, a former President of the United States of America (USA), who said ” to educate a person in mind and not morals is to educate a Menace to society “

The only person in the current administration, who is a family member of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, without blemish and can be able to cast the first stone, is Atta Akyea, the minister of Works and Housing.

His incorruptibility and as a stickler of principle, he has been rendered useless, so it will be easy to throw him out of the bus, should the unlikely event Akufo-Addo wins the next election.

In order to succeed in this government, you must become a pawn of the so-called Akyem Mafia, who have constituted themselves into Hyenas, devouring everything in their path.

Since his appointment, he has made his intention of bridging the housing deficit known, as well as plans to end the perennial flooding that has become the bane of this country, anytime there is a downpour. He can’t see to the realization of those plans without money, money the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has refused to make available to him.

A fortnight ago, I wrote an epistle, in which I stated my disappointment on the performance of Atta Akyea, who I thought was the weakest link in the already weak government. A friend called me and asked that, I interrogate the issues further. He was emphatic that, the minister was willing and has the capacity to deliver, but someone in government, who is shaken by the avowed principles of Atta Akyea, might be frustrating his efforts.

Indeed, I decided to keep an open mind and probe further and to my shock, his own kinsman is the one who is making sure Atta Akyea, is nothing but a failure.

Ken Ofori-Atta is a Trojan horse, he comes bearing gifts, but behind all the façade is a man who is full of vengeance.

Ken Ofori-Atta, never forgives nor forget, he will ensure that, he gets his pound of flesh, for him the past can never be left behind, if you think am lying, ask Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, about the Liberia connection.

Atta Akyea, remains the only exception in this locust administration, that has laid waste to our national heritage.

No sensible, self-valuing Ghanaian should risk their reputation and honour to praise anything this administration does, because every “positive” action has proven to be a lame attempt to cover up an egregious act of corruption on the part of the same characters pretending to take corrective action.

Atta Akyea, has become the black sheep of the family because of his principles, he has refused to mortgage his conscience and feed fat on resources that is meant for us and the next generation.

Ken Ofor-Atta, has become the Lionel Messi of everything corruption in this country, he talks, walks, and prayS his way out of the mess he is creating for the unborn generation.

He is ably aided by the coach, who has placed him in the position to ensure that no dollar or cedi, escapes the net of the family.

Ken ofori-Atta’s behavior highlights president Akufo-Addo’s most enduring weakness: a penchant for impulsively protecting and defending corruption among his associates.

President Akufo-Addo’s problem is not just parochialism and nepotism, which are now bywords for his administration.

Perhaps his biggest character flaw is unqualified personal loyalty to his benefactors and loyalists. Time and again, it has led him into the corruption of enabling and defending graft.

Atta Akyea, unfortunately with a clean heart has found himself among wolves, who will devour everything and anyone, who stands in their way.

For four years, the ministry of Works and Housing, has been nothing but a disaster and a drain on our scarce resources, because people are paid to report to work from Monday to Friday, with little or nothing to do.

The story must be told, as to the reason why Atta Akyea, comes across as a square peg in a round hole.

A man with so much drive and energy should not be denied the resources he needs to deliver. Isn’t it strange that, the two come from the same place, in fact for emphasis, Atta Akyea, succeeded Nana Akufo-Addo, as the Member of Parliament for Akim Abuakwa South.

Many who have come in contact with Atta Akyea, describe him as a hard working patriot who is committed to his responsibility as a minister, working long hours to ensure that programmes under his ministry are implemented.

It is repeating the obvious to say, housing is as important as food, tackle the two out of the basket of problems and everyone will have a dignified life.

Atta Akyea, having carved a niche for himself as a lawyer of enviable standing, also a notable Member of Parliament, you could say he was the right man for the job.

But in other to fulfill his duties to the best of his ability, he needed money, money which the Finance Minister won’t release.

Of all the failures of this administration, housing is number one. By the close of this year, housing deficit will hit 5.7million.

The Executive Secretary of the Ghana Real Estates Developers Association (GREDA), Samuel Amegayibor, has projected that the total housing shortage in the country will hit 5.7 million by the year 2020.

“Figures from the Ghana Statistical Service indicate a deficit of 1.7 million housing units, which is projected to hit about two million even before 2020,” he told Business Day Ghana at a Real Estate forum organized by the Canada-Ghana Chamber of Commerce in Accra.

According to Mr. Amegayibor, the country needs to provide in excess of 100,000 housing units annually to meet the current demand.

“If we could do anything better to the current demand, we should be doing about 70,000. We’re supplying now between 35,000 to 40,000, which is projected to rise to about 90,000 units per year. We will need to provide in excess of 100,000 units annually to meet this demand,” he explained.

This is the irony lost on Ken-Ofori Atta, this yawning deficit is a national security threat, Ghanaians need shelter, but hey, the government has less than a month in power, as John Dramani Mahama, will be sworn-in as president on January 7, 2021.
