I advised Bagbin from contesting NDC primaries – Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu
Majority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has stated his close pal and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli/Kaleo, Hon. S.K. Bagbin ignored an advise from him for not to contest their party’s presidential primaries against former President John D. Mahama.
“Our side of this world, it will be difficult for one to come back to parliament after contesting for presidential primaries and I know the internal politics in NDC so I told him not to contest”, the NPP lawmaker revealed.
According to Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu who spoke on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM’s morning show monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the decision of his counter not to seek reelection to parliament is a great gap.
“With all his experiences gathered for close to 24 years, Bagbin will leave a gap in parliament for deciding not to contest”, he told host, Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin.
The longest serving lawmaker at the close of nominations did not pick a form to contest the 2020 general elections on the ticket of the NDC signifying his desire to quit the legislature after his current term.
Hon. Bagbin who suffered a stiffer opposition within his party in the run up to the 2016 elections, maybe quitting to allow peace prevail in the party though sources reveal to MyNewsGh.com that he will officially reveal his reasons for staying off.
The former flagbearer aspirant has served as an MP for seven consecutive terms since 1993.
