I don’t trust NPP officials – Ken Agyapong
Maverick politician and financier of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has said he doubts where the allegiance of members of his party lies concerning his impasse between Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
The Assin Central lawmaker explains that his decision not to involve any top official of the NPP, in the matter as he seek to unearth the despicable activities of the undercover journalist is because he fears they might betray him along the way.
“On this particular matter, I don’t trust my own party because of the involvement of Kweku Baako. Kweku is very close to senior members of our party and I fear they might leak whatever documents I have to him.
“I am the lone ranger in this matter. It is my fight; I don’t intend to include any member of the NPP. I will fight Anas to the end,” Mr Agyapong said in an interview with Okay FM.
Abdul Malik Kweku Baako is a confidant of President Akufo-Addo and a mentor to Anas.
The MP has questioned the way and manner Anas conducts his investigations and has also accused the investigative journalist of fraud and blackmail.
Mr Agyapong last month screened a video on his television station Net 2 TV which suggested that Anas allegedly demanded a bribe of $100,000 from suspects in a gold scam case he had been contracted to investigate by a foreign company.
He insists he would fight tooth and nail to the nefarious activities of the investigative journalist.
But Anas has since filed a defamation suit against Mr Agyapong demanding GHC25 million in compensation for slandering him.
In response, the MP has also filed a complaint to the General Legal Council accusing Anas who is also a lawyer of misconduct.
He is therefore asking the Council to disbar Anas from practicing law.
