‘I never said I would prevent my children from doing music’
Ace high-life musician, Rex Omar, has denied reports circulating in the media that he will not allow his children to do music for a living.
The veteran musician’s comment comes after reports that he said on Cape FM’s Entertainment Xtra, he will discourage his children against doing music.
According to the music legend, the claim suggesting that he will not allow his children to take on music as their career is untrue.
Explaining the matter on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, on Wednesday the “Aware Pa” music fame said that he only meant that he would advise his children not to do it full time, as they may not break even from proceeds of record labels and shows in a place like Ghana.
“If there are musicians who have made money, then it wasn’t through music alone. They all know the truth. We should understand our country is a small one. You should consider yourself unemployed if you play just 2 shows a year. But elsewhere in foreign countries, artistes play 200 shows in a year, but that is not the situation in Ghana…” he said defensively.
Meanwhile Hiplife artiste, Akoo Nana, has countered Rex Omar’s view point stating that, “It is because of people like him, people do music and are still broke. Don’t discourage children who seek to enter into showbiz; when I started my career, I looked for a business manager to handle the business side of my career” he said
