Former Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) under erstwhile John Mahama led National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, Akwasi Agyamang Boadi has revealed that he declined to serve the people in any future NDC administration.
According to the former government appointee, he regrets accepting the position after serving the people in the area because of political pressure from party cronies and other relatives
“I swear if I am given any opportunity to serve the people in my capacity as MCE in any future NDC administration, I will decline”, Hon. Akwasi Agyamang Boadi vowed on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM morning show during panel discussion monitored by MyNewsGh.com.
“When pressure from party executives and family are coming, you cannot fight corruption anymore”, the former government appointee told host of ‘Kro Yimu Nsem’ political talk Show, Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin.
The former appointee therefore lauded moves by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to ensure Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCEs) are elected to serve a four-year term.
“When this happens, I know I am serving a term and nobody can remove me from office”, the former Obuasi MCE pointed out.
The government has stated that its commitment to see to a constitutional election of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) is on course.
To this end, it has indicated that the Electoral Commission (EC) has set Tuesday, December 10, 2019, for a referendum for the polls.
The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama who made the announcement at a media encounter indicated that the road map for the development of the different phases of the election of MMDCE’s is being worked on.
She explained that various stakeholders have been engaged across the country for consultations and therefore urged all Ghanaians to take part in the exercise.
”Preparations have been going on for the last two years. We have started working on the processes. The Committee also identified the need to adopt a roadmap and do sensitization and consultations. We have successfully engaged in stakeholders’ consultation in all parts of the country.
