A section of the public have expressed displeasure over the National Communication Authority’s ,NCA, insistence on the use of Ghana Card as the sole Identification Card for the registration of SIMs.
Speaking to this reporter on ‘Ghana Yenso Mu’ series, drivers and other informal workers at the Atomic Junction Station questioned why the NCA is insisting that the public use just the Ghana Card for the SIM Card registration exercise which is currently ongoing.
Venting their frustration in a vox pop, a driver said, “I do not know what is in this Ghana Card that is making them prefer that over the other forms of Identification cards. Meanwhile, the Voter ID card was used to vote President Akufo-Addo into power. If it was good enough for election exercise, why is it not accepted in this instance?” he quizzed.
These reactions follow a directive by the National communication Authority, NCA, that all Ghanaians who patronize mobile telephony to register their SIM cards from October 1 to March 2022.
According NCA, failure to register an operational SIM Card by next year March 2022, will result in blocking of unregistered SIMs.
Despite the kick back against the use of Ghana Card as the sole form of Identification for the Exercise, Minister for Communication, Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekuful has maintained her stance that the Ghana Card remains the only acceptable form of ID for the exercise. She encouraged all who do not have the Ghana Card to acquire one for the exercise.
