I’m no galamseyer – Kweku Baako fights back
Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has parried accusations that he is involved in illegal mining also known as galamsey.
Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, had claimed that there was evidence that the veteran journalist owes a small-scale mining company that is prospecting for gold in the Western Region.
“I have dig Kweku Baako and his boy (referring to Anas) very well. I have documents to suggest that he owns a mining company call C&J Alaska that has been mining gold illegally in the Western Region.
“He should be very careful because, I have lots of information about him. He preaches virtues and practice vices,” the Assin Central Member of Parliament is quoted as saying.
Responding to the allegations on Peace FM on Wednesday, Mr Baako said the accusations by the legislator was aimed at denting his hard won reputation, which he added, would not wash.
“It is a fallacy! I don’t owe any mining company, let alone indulge in galamsey. I do genuine business to take care of my family and don’t intend to invest in mining because I don’t know how the industry works.
“Some people are bent on tainting my image but we live to see. Let me repeat I don’t have a mining company and the claim that I am into galamsay is palpable falsehood,” the editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper asserted.
