The New Patriotic Party, NPP, is unfazed by former President Mahama’s decision to contest the 2020 presidential elections, acting General Secretary of NPP, John Boadu has said.
According to him, Mr. Mahama’s resolve to contest in the upcoming election is no news, as the NPP is not perturbed by the move.
“His declaration is no news to us because we knew he would contest against the will of many NDC supporters.
“The only reason why NDC have welcomed his decision is because the former president and his brother, Ibrahim Mahama are key financiers of the party,” he said on Okay FM Monday morning.
Quizzed on whether the former president’s decision poses any threat to the NPP, he said, “We care less if he runs for presidency or not, we all know his performance from his previous administration.
“And we were not surprised when he declared his intention. The nationwide unity walks he embarked on were subtle way of preparing the minds of the grassroots that he will bounce back, but because he has been financing election campaigns for the party, disgruntled members have become tightlipped on his move; though they know they cannot come back to power if he’s allowed to lead them to the polls.”
The acting General Secretary of the NPP added that, the NPP is focused on solving the real issues affecting Ghanaians and will not waste their time discussing the former president.
“What we are concerned about is that, we (NPP) will extend Free SHS to second year student by next year September.
