Mahatma Otoo ends goal drought in Turkish Cup
Ghana’s Mahatma Otoo ended his mini goal drought by scoring in Balikesirspor’s 5-0 romp over Amedspor in the second round of the Turkish Cup on Thursday afternoon.
The 26-year-old striker set the tone for his team’s humiliation of Amedspor when he fetched the opener in the 31st minute with a powerful drive outside the box, a goal that excited the raucous fans at the Balikesir Ataturk Stadyumu.
The former Hearts of Oak forward until getting the opening goal had failed to find the back of the net in his last 6 games for the club. He was the club’s top scorer last term but has struggled to replicate same form this season.
Sedat Sahinturk netted the second goal in the 56th-minute whiles Muhammed Ali Dogan poked home the 3rd goal in the 65th minute. Steve Beleck’s spot-kick made it 4-0 in the 64th minute.
Rahmi Anil Basaran got the fifth goal with six minutes to end the game to complete the demolition of 10-man Amedspor.
The Balkes have advanced to the third round of the competition. Their next test is a home tie against Altay in the Super Lig 2.
Mahatma Otoo lasted the entire duration of the game.
Balikesirspor are 11th on the Turkish Super lig 2 table after 5 games with 6 points.
