Former President Jerry John Rawlings has denied claims on social media that he has an investment with gold dealership firm Menzgold Ghana Limited.
Tweeting in reaction to a purported list, flying on social media, of high profile Ghanaians, including politicians who invested in Menzgold, Mr Rawlings said: “Shouldn’t Menzgold be reacting to this silly list making the rounds on social media?”
“I do not have a stash anywhere to waste on questionable ventures and doubt others on the list involved themselves in this mess,” Mr Rawlings said.
Menzgold has not been able to pay its several thousands of clients their extra values and principals since August last year after Ghana’s Securities and Exchange Commission shut the company down over regulatory infractions.
The Ghanaian authorities have issued a warrant for CEO Nana Appiah Mensah’s arrest.
Meanwhile, the Statesman newspaper’s online portal has reported that NAM1, as the CEO is popularly known, has been arrested and detained in Dubai.
