NDC’s Hawks will match Delta Forces and Invisible Forces – Asiedu Nketia
General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says there is nothing wrong with the formation of vigilante group, The Hawks by the party.
Former Deputy Sports Minister, Joseph Yamin, during the party’s regional elections in the Ashanti Region unveiled the group to the teeming party supporters.
He says The Hawks would provide internal security for the party before, during and after elections.
“The objective is to protect our ballot boxes during elections. It is very necessary to have this group to protect party individuals from trouble makers,” he said amid applause from the crowd gathered.
The move has been heavily criticized by security experts who say the trend could plunge the country into chaos if care is not taken.
But Mr Asiedu Nketia told journalists in Accra that the party fully supports the decision to form the group.
He said the group would match the New Patriotic Party’s Delta and Invisible Forces “boot for boot”.
“For the party two members of the Delta and Invisible Forces have been terrorizing people in this country and the president and the security forces have failed to take the necessary actions, so there is nothing wrong with the NDC forming The Hawks to match the activities of these groups.
“We need to offer adequate protection for our supporters as executives of the party and we are determined to do so,” Mr Asiedu Nketia who is seeking reelection in the upcoming national delegates congress added.
