Nkrumah had unique leadership qualities lacking today – Adam Mutawakilu
Adams Mutawakilu has stated that Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president was an exceptional leaders but had some limitations as well.
The Minority spokesperson on Mines and Energy maintained that by virtue of the fact that he is human, he is bound to have some shortfalls but it doesn’t rule out the fact that he was an outstanding leader.
Contributing to a debate on Founder’s day on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Friday, he said, “Dr Kwame Nkrumah had rare leadership qualities lacking in today’s leaders. He is a human being so he definitely will have some shortfalls. No human being can be scored 10/10 but what let’s not lose the fact that he left a legacy that cannot be erased. His ideologies goes beyond the borders of Ghana”.
He rubbished the argument put up by the ruling NPP that Dr Nkrumah was not the sole founder of the Ghana, hence the changing of Founder’s day to Founders’ day.
“Of course Nkrumah could not have single handedly done it and he acknowledge it so many times per the records available. He always addressed his team as comrades. It was evident at certain points in history that he was referring to Ofori Atta and Obetsebi-Lamptey; that in itself shows that he didn’t claim glory for himself,” he said.
“In fact even on international frontiers he had help and support from some African leaders but why did they put just his statue at the AU headquarters? So that argument that Ghana was not founded by one person is neither here nor there,” he added.
He thus urged as many politicians who defend the legacy of Dr. Nkrumah to also acknowledge that he also had limitations as a human being.
