NPP vigilante group, Delta Force, has touted themselves as an effective security wing of the NPP, claiming the party enjoyed a smooth election last season due to their tactful vigilantism at polling centers.
Mohammed Seidu, the Ashanti Region Coordinator of New Patriotic Party’s internal security, stated that there were no incidences of ballot-box snatching during the 2016 elections because of the vigilance of his men.
Sharing his thoughts on the on-going NPP’s Delegate Conference with Onua FM on Saturday at the Koforidua Technical University, Mr Seidu said he ensured that electoral officers were offered protection during the last elections, which saw Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo wrestling power from the NDC.
He said so far, there has been heightened interest in joining the internal security among youth of the NPP contrary to widely held perceptions about the groups.
He revealed that currently the membership of the internal security – most notably Delta Forces and Invisible Forces – is about 4,000.
He however observed that only a few were deployed for the 46th NPP National Annual Delegates’ Conference which is ongoing in Koforidua.
The theme for the 26th conference is “Building a stronger party; delivering prosperity to Ghanaians “.
Recalling their work during the 2016 elections, Mohammed Siedu said the only instance of an attempt to snatch a ballot box was in South Suntreso in the Ashanti Region but was immediately dealt with as the culprit was arrested and duly handed to the police.
He said so far, some members of the two internal security groups have gained entry into some of the state’s security bodies including National Security.
