Obviously annoyed by their modus operandi, Executive Director of Third World Network, a non-governmental organization, Dr Yao Graham, has labeled both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) as mafia groups.
He says the two largest political parties, when in power take decisions that would benefit their members rather than the general interest of the citizenry.
Dr Yao Graham argues that the two parties are not committed to the transformational change of the country, stressing that “they operate like mafia clans”.
“To make it clear to you, I can say that we have two parties who operate in the manner of two clans, who rule on behalf of themselves and their members.
“If you look at the history of the economy in the fourth republic, both parties have perpetuated the policies which have resulted in what we are experiencing now,” he said on Starr FM.
According to him, both the NDC and NPP when in opposition make fanciful promises, but fail to accomplish them when voted into office.
“When you listen to them, their debates are always on who has done worse, not who has done better. I think we need something coming out of the citizenry which begins to put pressure to transform the way the country is being run, because, without that these two parties will not lead the country to where we want,” he said.
Dr Graham further expressed his thoughts on several issues that are causing damage to the country when he was asked about his opinion on the state of the country on Republic Day.
