Okyenhene’s 20th Anniversary Celebration to be launched in October
The 20th coronation celebration of Okyemanwura Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin will take place from October 2019 to December 2019, the Okyenhene has said.
Osagyefuo announced this at the 2nd quarter meeting of the 20th session of the Akyem Abuakwa State Council (The Okyeman State Council is the highest decision making body of the kingdom of Akyem Abuakwa) held on Friday the 7th of June 2019 at the Ofori Panin Fie in Kyebi, the official seat of the king of Akyem Abuakwa.
Also top on the agenda was the impending creation of paramountcies within the Akyem Abuakwa State. Osagyefuo was of the view that Okyeman which is the single largest traditional area in the Eastern Region and Southern Ghana should have more than a single representation at the regional house of chiefs as pertains to other large traditional areas in the other regions of the country.
He alluded to the fact that during the days of Nana Sir Ofori Atta, Okyeman had 26 representatives at the Eastern Provincial Council until it was revoked with the establishment of the houses of chiefs whose establishment happened after the death of Nana Sir Ofori Atta and also at the blindside of Okyeman.
The Okyenhene intimated that plans are far advanced for the elevation of at least 13 senior chiefs in the kingdom to paramountcy status. He, however, served notice to the potential paramount chiefs that secessionist attempts from the parent Okyeman Council will not be entertained. He called on the chiefs to remain loyal to the Akyem Abuakwa kingdom.
