Mark Okraku Mantey has launched an attack on Adom FM and Peace FM for allegedly failing to project highlife music.
He argued that, these two top radio stations are supposed to chart the path in the promotion of highlife music because they are local language speaking stations.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM’s ‘Daybreak’ on Wednesday, he added that, they are supposed to take advantage of their vast listenership to project this genre of music which actually forms part of Ghana’s rich culture.
“Adom FM and Peace FM have failed highlife musicians. They are supposed to be the channels to lead the highlife because of their target audience. You realise that because the Hitz FMs, YFMs, Live FMs will play the youth’s latest, the youth’s music does better”
“Adom and Peace FM who are supposed to play the Akwaboahs, the Kwabena Kwabenas are busy playing the oldies. If they have to play latest songs, they follow what Live FM, Hitz FM are playing. They have neglected the people they have to promote,”
“When I was growing up, being a DJ was a big deal. People who wanted to know good music, had to research to be given the opportunity to have the title ‘DJ’. Today, because of PC, everybody can mix. And the moment he mixes, he says he’s a DJ. One ought to have the passion for the job to be called a DJ,” he bemoaned.
