Sights and sounds: Akufo-Addo hosts Kamala Harris at banquet
President Akufo-Addo last night hosted the US Vice President, Kamala Harris at a banquet.
The event organised at the state banquet of the Jubilee House in Accra saw a plethora of high-profile attendees including Kamala’s husband Douglas Emhoff and the US delegation.
Actors, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Idris Elba, Rosario Dawson, filmmaker Spike Lee, and BET President Scott Mills were also spotted at the dinner.
High-ranking Ghanaian businessmen, politicians entrepreneurs, creatives and diplomats were in attendance.
Ghanaian musicians Efya, Amakye Dede and Wiyaala treated the diverse audience to exciting performances on the night.
Kamala wore an elegant white gown with a cape while President Akufo-Addo rocked a black suit.
During the proposal of toast, the US Vice President expressed her condolence to the families affected by the school shooting in the US yesterday.
The Tennessee incident resulted in the killing of six people, including three children, before the attacker was shot dead by police.
“So to the people of Nashville, please know that we are thinking of you and that you are in our prayers and in our hearts, and that Doug and I send you all of our best during this time of grief,” the US Vice President said in her opening speech.
On the whole, it was a great night for both countries which crowned an activity-filled day for both leaders.
Madam Harris is currently embarking on a one-week tour which will see her visit Ghana and two other African countries – Tanzania and Zambia.
