Angry NDC Executives Disrupt Vetting Of Sammi Awuku’s Boy
A vetting scheduling by the Greater Accra regional branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to test the eligibility of Parliamentary candidate hopefuls went topsy turvy when a mob of angry executives of the Tema East Constituency branch of the party stormed the venue.
The mob would seek to scuttle the vetting of one particular man (name withheld).
Their action, based on righteous anger, was aimed at ensuring that the man in question who is said to be a mole of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Sammi Awuku, didn’t even get the opportunity to try his luck at getting his name on the party’s Parliamentary ticket for Tema East.
It took several hours of pleas to get the mob to cool down.
Recently, it was in the news that Sammi Awuku who now heads the National Lotteries Authority (NLA) had met with lotto writers in Tema East at his office and told them to support the mole to become the NDC’s PC for Tema East.
One Daniel Bakah a lotto writer in the constituency who says he sat in the meeting revealed this in a news story in which he also cautioned the NDC to ensure that the mole never gets anywhere close to the party’s parliamentary ticket.
Mr. Anthony is of NDC sympathies and so when Sammi Awuku was courting the support of the lotto writers for his mole, he was selling his monkey business to at least one NDC sympathizer in the room.
If the mole were to succeed, it would mean that incumbent NDC MP, Isaac Ashai Odamtten would lose the party’s ticket.
According to information available, this would then put Sammi Awuku’s mole in position to sabotage the NDC by sabotaging his own election campaign so as to make it easy for the NPP to win back the Tema East seat which had for a long time been clinched by the NPP.
Meanwhile, there have been calls on the NDC to allow Hon. Isaac Ashai Odamtten to go unopposed as PC for Tema East in the 2024 elections. Many delegates have already said that there was no need to waste money on a primary and that such money can be better spent on the parliamentary election itself.
On Wednesday, when the angry executives stormed the vetting venue, this call was reiterated however, the vetting committee had to deliver its mandate of ensuring that the vetting of all candidates happened.
Three people, including the incumbent MP, were vetted. Subsequently, there was balloting in which Hon. Ashai Odamtten got the number one spot on the ballot.
