Why is chief of staff in super delegate congress register? - Hopeson Adorye asks
The campaign team of Alan Kyerematen, a flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed concerns about the inclusion of certain individuals in the party’s register for the upcoming super delegate conference.
The conference is scheduled for August 26, 2023, as part of the NPP’s presidential primaries.
Hopeson Adorye, a former NPP parliamentary hopeful for Kpone Katamanso, raised objections to the inclusion of certain names in the register during an interview on Okay FM. He specifically mentioned the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, asserting that her inclusion is unconstitutional according to the NPP’s rules.
Adorye pointed out that the NPP constitution outlines specific criteria for individuals eligible to vote in special delegate conferences. He cited Article 10(4) and Article 13(9), emphasizing that these articles do not include the Chief of Staff as an eligible voter.
The NPP’s super delegate conference aims to narrow down the list of presidential candidates to five contenders. Subsequently, the main primaries are scheduled for November 4, 2023, to determine the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections. The list of candidates includes Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen, and several other prominent figures within the NPP.
