Election 2024: Sign peace pact – Hassan Ayariga appeals to Asiedu Nketia
The Founder and Leader of All People’s Congress Dr. Hassan Ayariga is appealing to the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia to smoke the peace pipe by signing the peace pact ahead of the December polls.
His comments follow Mr. Nketia expressing skepticism about the effectiveness of past Peace Pacts, highlighting that they had not achieved their intended outcomes, particularly referencing the 2020 elections, during which eight NDC members were allegedly killed by national security operatives without accountability.
The NDC has demanded that the recommendations from the investigation into the violence during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election be fully implemented among other 5 conditions.
But Dr. Ayariga urged Mr. Nketia to commit to peace in an interview on Campaign Trail on Starr FM on Wednesday.
“You know from the 2012 General Election till today, Hassan Ayariga has always been the first person to advocate for peace in this country and also advocate for free and fair election. I have signed all treaties and all agreements.
“Let us not forget, it is only when there is a peace that we can go in for election and nobody can rule a burning nation. So I will advise the NDC that this is not a do-or-die kind of election.
“We have conducted elections since 1992 and to show the level of tolerance, maturity, and the level of being one of the parties who have ever ruled this country, they should sign any form of peace accord whether directly or indirectly whether from any party or any institution. It is for them to demonstrate to the world that this election is going to be peaceful, free, and fair from their end.” He added
