    Ghana Dominates 2024 Region II West Africa Badminton Championship

    Ghana emerged as the champions of the 2024 Region II West Africa Invitational Badminton Championship, held at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra. Led by Coach Mosses Adu, Ghana secured a total of 22 medals: 11 gold, six silver, and five bronze, to finish first in the competition.

    In the Senior Mixed Doubles, Ghana clinched both first and third places, with Benin taking second. 

    The Women’s Doubles saw Ghana win gold, Benin silver, and Burkina Faso bronze. Similarly, Ghana claimed gold in the Men’s Doubles, with Benin and Burkina Faso following in second and third place, respectively.

    The Women’s Singles event ended with a gold and silver for Ghana, while Benin and Burkina Faso shared bronze honors.

    In the Men’s Singles, Benin took gold, while Ghana secured silver and bronze.

    In the U-19 Girls Doubles, Ghana finished first, followed by Burkina Faso in second and Benin in third. The U-19 Boys Doubles saw Ghana dominate, taking both first and second places, while Burkina Faso and Benin tied for third. Ghana also claimed gold and silver in the U-19 Mixed Doubles, leaving Benin with bronze.

    In the U-19 Girls Singles, Ghana won gold, Burkina Faso secured silver, and Benin took bronze. The U-19 Boys Singles was a clean sweep for Ghana, taking all three top positions.

    In the team events, Ghana won gold in both the Senior and Junior categories, with Benin and Burkina Faso securing second and third places in the Senior event, and Burkina Faso and Benin doing the same in the Junior event.

    Special awards were given to Ghana’s Jonathan Ankrah, who won the Best Junior Team Player award, and Prospera Nantuo, named Best Senior Female Team Player of the tournament.

    Mr. Yeboah Evans, President of the Ghana Badminton Association, expressed his deep gratitude to the participating nations for their contributions to the successful championship.

     Mrs. Pare Ouedrago Fatoumata, a representative from the Embassy of Burkina Faso, also congratulated Ghana for hosting a remarkable competition. She praised her country’s athletes, saying, "We made you proud by winning some medals," and added a promise for the future: "We would be participating in next year’s Africa Youth Badminton Championship here again."
