SWAT Shines at 5th Sakumono Skating Games
The Police Skate Team (SWAT) showcased their dominance at the 5th Edition of the Sakumono Skating Games, organized under the auspices of the Ghana Skating Association.
The team clinched an impressive total of 11 medals across various categories, including 6 Gold, 3 Silver, and 2 Bronze.
Coach Johnson Gameli Kportufe shared the journey of forming and grooming the SWAT team, describing it as a challenging but rewarding experience.
“When I introduced the sport to the barracks kids, some parents were scared and expressed how dangerous the game is. But with time, and with the right protection, the game is now accepted, and they allow their kids to train and participate in competitions,” he said.
He also expressed pride in the team’s progress, noting their improved performance in the Sakumono Skating Games.
“We won 7 medals when we first participated in the Sakumono Skating Games, and today we are proud to have received 11 medals. This is a significant improvement.”
Coach Kportufe further highlighted the team’s international achievements.
“Some of our players were selected to be part of the National Team that traveled to Turkey and won bronze,” he added.
Calling for support, he appealed to the Police administration and other stakeholders to invest in the sport and the SWAT team.
“It’s a barracks team, and I will plead with the Police administration, individuals, and stakeholders to come and support us to grow the sport together,” he urged.
The 5th Sakumono Skating Games once again highlighted the growing interest and potential in skating, with the SWAT team leading the charge.
