Bekwai MP Ralph Poku-Adusei Leads Sanitation Drive
Residents of Bekwai Constituency can soon expect a transformation in their sanitation landscape, as Hon. Ralph Poku-Adusei, Member of Parliament and Deputy Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources, intensifies efforts to tackle long-standing waste management issues.
During a recent working visit, a collaborative meeting was held involving the Parliamentary Committee on Sanitation, the Bekwai Municipal Assembly, sanitation officials, representatives from Zoomlion Ghana, and the Kumasi Compost and Recycling Plant.
The discussions shed light on critical sanitation challenges facing the constituency, notably the scarcity of waste containers, setbacks in the Sanitation Improvement Plan (SIP), inadequate fumigation services, and inefficiencies at the final dumping site at Sesekro.
To confront these hurdles, the stakeholders proposed establishing a mobile waste transfer station or a compost and recycling facility within the constituency.
Such an initiative would not only enhance waste disposal practices but also generate organic compost, boost local agriculture, and open up employment opportunities for residents.
Hon. Poku-Adusei, who has a track record of leading sanitation improvements — including the historic clearance of refuse sites at Kokofu, Poano, and Adjamesu — reiterated his unwavering commitment to seeing Bekwai attain a cleaner, healthier environment.
Addressing the gathering, he pledged to leverage his position within Parliament to secure the necessary support for sanitation projects in the area.
He also announced ongoing negotiations with the Kumasi Compost and Recycling Plant to partner with the Municipal Assembly and other key players in establishing a compost facility in Bekwai.
This project, once completed, is expected to serve not only Bekwai but neighboring constituencies as well.
Under his "Clean Bekwai" initiative, Hon. Poku-Adusei assured residents that improving public health through better sanitation infrastructure remains a top priority.
He emphasized that the upcoming compost and recycling plant will not only address environmental concerns but also serve as a catalyst for job creation and sustainable development in the constituency.
