Remove Akufo-Addo, Bawumia from office – Akua Donkor tells Supreme Court

Founder of the defunct Ghana Freedom Party, GFP, Madama Akua Donkor, has filed a writ at the Supreme Court praying the apex court of the land to remove President Akufo-Addo and his vice, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia from office.

The controversial politician who crossed carpets from the Progressive People’s Party, PPP, to join the National Democratic Congress, NDC, prior to the 2016 election argues that, the president and his vice must pave way for investigations over claims that they demand bribes from investors.

Madam Akua Donkor believes that the pair could interfere in the work of investigators if they still remain in office since they could be indicted.
Mr Nyantakyi was filmed apparently accepting a “cash gift” from associates of celebrated investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

He took $65,000 (£48,000) from an undercover Tiger Eye Pi reporter pretending to be a businessman.

In the secret audio-visual recording by investigative journalists, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, titled, “Number 12”, Kwesi Nyantakyi is heard saying, “I have President Akufo-Addo in my pocket and I can secure any contract, it’s just a matter of paying”.

He adds: “Ghana is the easiest place to do business. All you have to do is pay the president $5 million and pay the vice president $3 million and we will control this country.”

President Akufo-Addo however reported the matter to the Criminal Investigations Department, CID, of the Ghana Police Service.

Anas subsequently petitioned world football governing body FIFA to ban Nyantakyi from all football-related activities for life, but with investigations ongoing, Nyantakyi decided to resign.
