Interesting but startling report emerging from the health sector indicates that there is no dialysis center in the Brong Ahafo Region.
Speaking to the media in Accra, Brong Ahafo Regional Health Director, Dr Kofi Issah, disclosed that patients suffering from kidney infections are transferred to either Kumasi or Accra for treatment.
“The situation is very serious, we don’t have a dialysis centre in the region and it is a grave concern to us,” Dr Issah lamented.
He, however, indicated that plans are afoot to secure a fully furnished center to treat patients who would require the process.
In medicine, dialysis is the process of removing excess water, solutes and toxins from the blood in those whose native kidneys have lost the ability to perform these functions in a natural way. This is referred to as renal replacement therapy.
