Surge in Crimes: I was a victim of kidnapping – NPP’s Ben Ayeh

Benjamin Kofi Ayeh, former MP for Upper Denkyira West has revealed that he was nearly kidnapped when he was a child.

He recounted the incident on top Current Affairs show ‘Ghana Yenso Mu’ while sharing his views on the surge in violent crimes in the country.

In the former MP’s estimation, violent crimes has been with humanity from the beginning of time, but he was however quick to add that the increase in population, breakdown of social systems, high levels of unemployment among other factors has contributed to the surge in social vices.

“When I was just a boy, I went with my uncle to a chop bar and decided to pass water outside. I was suddenly snatched by an unknown man as I screamed and cried for help. But for the timely intervention of my uncle, the man would have taken me away.

“So, you see, crimes and social vices have been with us from the beginning of time. The story of Cane and Abel as captured in the Holy Bible is a clear evidence of this fact. Again, the proliferation of media has bridged the gaps that existed between local communities so any incident that occurs in the hinterlands finds its way to the airwaves and to the masses who patronise media contents,” the former MP who double’s as NPP communicator explained.

Hon Benjamin Ayeh added that, besides the above parameters, he cannot deny the fact that joblessness is a huge contributing factor to crime.

“It’s thus important that government and the entire citizenry work together to solve the issue of unemployment as a matter of urgency,” he said.
