Students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have been ordered to vacate campus by mid-day of September 18.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) pointing to a planned disturbance on campus on the eve of vacation on –September 17.
The statement reminded the students that a 2018 declaration of the KNUST as a security zone is in full force, adding, security will be beefed up on campus to enforce the directive.
The directive, issued by the Regional Minister and Chairman of the ARCC, Simon Osei-Mensah, exempted foreign students and those permitted by management to stay on campus.
Speaking to Kasapa News, Public Relations officer of the university Dr. Norris Bekoe said, the university picked intelligence on some hall members of Katanga and unity hall planning to cause violence on campus after completion of their exams hence the directive.
