Head coach of Kenya, Sébastien Migné has not included skipper Victor Wanyama for their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Ghana.
The Tottenham Hotspur midfield dynamo was expected to join the team early this week but has been ruled out with a knee injury.
The 26-year-old had been included in the provisional squad, with the hope that he’d recover from the injury he picked up in preseason, but Migné was unable to call upon him for the 8 September clash.
“We know Victor has been injured and it will not be possible to have him. Today is Wednesday, three days to the match, and if we were to have him, he would be here,” said the head coach as he announced the 24-man squad.
“But I think we should have some professionalism [at the KFA] because I see [Wanyama’s French teammate at Tottenham] Lloris Hugo was injured and he had to go to Paris to be checked by the national team doctors. So in future, this is something we should consider.”
Wanyama’s older brother McDonald Mariga, who features for Real Oviedo in Spain, was also left out of the squad.
The Harambee Stars lost their opening Group F tie 2-1 away to Sierra Leone. Ghana started their campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of Ethiopia.
Kenya’s federation also confirmed they will also host Malawi in an international friendly on September 11 in Nairobi.
