Ghanaian Afro pop artiste Noella Wiyaala has raised concerns about musicians being ‘cheated’ of their royalties.
The eccentric musician argued that, if proper measures are not put in place to fix the problem, regardless of awards an artiste gets on local and international platforms, they might go hungry later in life.
She consequently urged the Musicians Union of Ghana “MUSIGA” to adopt a strategy to correct the system so that musicians can duly benefit from their creative works.
Speaking to JoyNews, Wiyaala stated that, “the issues with royalties must be dealt with as a matter of urgency; royalties are of the sure ways we artistes get paid for our work.
“Without the royalties you can take all the awards in the world, but still get broke later in life.”
