Popular Security Experts has pleaded with armed robbers, asking them to spare the lives of victims of robbery attacks.
Ishmael Norman, president of Institute for Security, Disaster and Emergency Studies (ISDES) contributing to the rising cases of armed robbery on Joy News said, “I plead with robbers to spare the lives of victims. You already have taken the money; you won. So why take the lives of the victims too. Please do not kill victims,” he pleaded.
The Security expert who cited high unemployment as a leading cause of robberies in the country urged government to do their possible best to provide jobs for youth of the country.
“Some of these robbers may be unemployed persons who are not channeling their energies into profitable ventured. Some of them too are from disbanded vigilante groups,” he added.
According to him, joblessness has caused some young people to engage in criminal activities out of desperation to survive.
He suggested that security agencies revisit visibility policing to bring down crime rates.
He however, brushed aside calls for the removal of the IGP, James Oppong Boanuh, arguing that if students of a lecturer in a university underperform, it does not warrant outright dismissal. So, such an action will be unfair.
