Professor Stephen Addai, who is a supposed article 71 officeholder, but didn’t see the need to condemn the 79% salary increment, which was proposed by the emoluments committee early this year, but has now seen the need to say that public sector workers do not deserve the 4% salary increment proposed by the government.
Reacting to Professor Stephen Addai’s statement on the 4% salary increment for public sector workers on ‘Good Morning Africa’ on Pan Africa television, a former PNC Parliamentary candidate for Akuapem North Constituency, Desmond Twumasi Ntow, has said that at Professor Stephen Addai’s age, he should be taking his pension payments, but he has been put on boards and taking salaries when he should be at home playing with his grandchildren.
According to Desmond Twumasi Ntow, he doesn’t blame Professor Stephen Addai for saying that public sector workers don’t deserve the 4% salary increment because at his age, he is still taking government salary.
Desmond Twumasi Ntow indicated that at his age, Professor Stephen Addai should be taking his pension payments, but he is on boards and still taking a salary, so that is what he is going to say. He said that if we have people who are supposed to retire and play with their grandchildren in their backyards, but at the end of the day, they are given government positions, what do you expect to come out from them.
“So, I don’t blame Professor Stephen Addai for his statement, and if he has children and grandchildren who are working in the public sector, I doubt that he will come out and say that they don’t deserve the 4% increase in their salaries.”
He revealed that the public sector workers are even complaining about the 4% salary increments, and instead of Professor Stephen Addai adding his voice to whatever is happening so that the government can increase their salaries, he is rather telling them that they don’t deserve it, but the president and article 71 officeholders deserve an increment of 79 percent?
“No wonder he is also part of the article 71 office holders, so he was quiet back then, but has come out to condemn the public sector workers who are really working hard.”
Desmond Twumasi Ntow added that it is below the belt for someone like Professor Stephen Addai to come out and tell Ghanaians that they don’t deserve the 4% salary increment. He should come out and apologize to Ghanaians.
