Government has through Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL) showcased state of the art equipment and skillful human resources ahead of the nationwide schools disinfection.
The President in his 20th Covid-19 address to the nation directed that schools from Kindergarten, primary and Junior High Schools be disinfected before re-opening.
The showcase of the equipment on Monday (4th January 2021) at the Independence Square in Accra, which forms part of the Information Minister’s Covid-19 Press Briefing was in line with the President’s directive and government’s preparedness to step up the covid-19 fight.
Speaking at the Ceremony, the Minister for Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah emphasized that government is committed to combating the covid-19 pandemic and nipping it in the bud hence the showcasing of the equipment and human resources by ZGL through government.
“Government will be outlining measures to step up the pandemic ahead of the re-opening of schools and today’s engagement is one of the engagements government will be having to step up efforts in fighting the pandemic”, Oppong Nkrumah stressed.
The Managing Director of ZGL, Madam Gloria Anti revealed that Ghana was commended amongst African countries for its effort in fighting the covid-19 pandemic through the previous nationwide disinfection exercises.
She said this was achieved through the concerted effort of government and its partners including Zoomlion Ghana limited.
Madam Anti later commended the Security Agencies and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for their immense support in chalking the achievements arising out of government’s nationwide disinfection exercises.
“This morning we are gathered here to exhibit state of the art equipment. The occasion is also to indicate our readiness to undertake the nationwide disinfection exercise”, Madam Anti noted.
Some of the sophisticated equipment showcased she disclosed include 5000 atomizing vehicles, 5000 motorized spraying machines , 100 drones , 5000 hand held spraying machines among others.
The MD further disclosed that 6,000 markets were disinfected nationwide and 3, 140 schools as well as 5,000 churches and mosques were disinfected nationwide in 2020.
She revealed that as part of the company’s readiness to execute seamlessly the current phase of nationwide schools disinfection, a Pest and Vector Control Association has been formed adding that “we in the private sector continue to pledge our commitment to make Ghana a safe and clean environment”.
On her part the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah, commended ZGL for investing heavily in equipment inorder to execute their mandate.
“We stand in solidarity with Zoomlion and ESPA members to take up this task” , she said.
Madam Dapaah later commended the President for showing compassion by extending the free water to the life line vulnerable.
She added that “with all the efforts being put in place Ghana will surely defeat this pandemic”.
The Minister for Education, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, expressed optimism that the disinfection exercise ahead of the schools re-opening would go a long way to ensure safety in the schools.
“We hope that partnering with Zoomlion and its partners, the work will be nearly done and we can all be free from covid”.
