Ashaiman Brutality: Hot-blooded soldiers got carried away- Deputy Defence Minister
The Deputy Defence Minister has said some of the soldiers who were sent to Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region for a well corroborated operation sanctioned by the military hierarchy got carried away reason for the brutality.
“When it comes to operations of this nature, some of our men get carried away so they indulge in excesses”, Mr Kofi Amannkwa-Manu, Deputy Minister for Defence has said.
The statement from the Deputy Minister was in reaction to an early Tuesday morning raid of parts of Ashaiman by military personnel following the murder of one of their colleagues days ago by unknown assailants in the area.
According to reports, an unofficial curfew was placed on residents in the area following the raid, and some residents were brutalized and rounded up by the military to an unknown location.
Meanwhile, the minister has said government will never apologies for the operation, but for the brutality metted out to the innocent civilians.
“I will apologise for the excesses, we apologise but we are not going to apologise for the operation,” Mr Kofi Amankwa Manu said this in an interview with Akoma FM in Kumasi monitored by MyNewsGH.com.
The minister also asked Ghanaians to stay calm and not to be worried about the incident because it was a well corroborated operations carried out by the military high command.
“It was sanctioned by the military hierarchy. It is a well corroborated operation in Ahaiman”, he said.
