Ghana's Asamoah Gyan has announced his retirement from active football.
The 37-year-old made the announcement through a press statement on Tuesday, 20th June 2023.
"That voice has been clear in my ears and I have succumbed to it," Gyan said, adding: "It is time. It is time to hang the jersey and boots in glory as I officially retire from active football."
Gyan, however, indicated that he would still be involved in football activities in one way or another.
Despite his retirement, he stated, "I am mindful of the opinions shared by esteemed businessmen and sports gurus: 'You don't abandon your passion.'"
Gyan mentioned that, together with his management, he would continue to encourage and nurture young talents, as he did recently with the Babyjet U16 African tournament, where 1,200 young players from across West Africa showcased their talents on live TV.
Furthermore, he hinted at utilising "my experience and knowledge in the realms of coaching, football business, and scouting."
