Ishmael Ashitey Medical Centre Opens In Tema

A medical centre in memory of late Ghanaian politician and New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart, Mr. Ishmael Ashitey, has opened in Tema, the main harbour city of Ghana.

The medical centre, which is located at 13 First Street, Community 3, Tema, will provide medical services to people within Tema and its catchment areas, even as it memorializes the late political stalwart and Mp for three terms in Tema East.

It opened on Saturday, July 29th, 2023.

“This is in fulfilment of a desire of my late father to serve humanity. I trained as a medical doctor and so this is how me, together with my family and others, fulfil that dream for him,” explained Dr. Nilba Ashitey, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Ishmael Ashitey Medical Centre.

Dr. Nilba Ashitey adds that, “I hope that wherever he is, he will be happy that we have put this up in his memory, I would like to thank all those who have contributed to the realization of the Medical Centre, which is far more economical than the other medical facilities in Tema.” Dr. Nilba said.

Speaker after speaker including the hardworking and brilliant Tema MCE, Hon. Yohane Amarh Ashitey, the Tema West MCE, Hon. Naa Adukwei Addo and Mr. David Quaye Annang urged Tema residents to patronize the Health facility with modern equipment.

Mr. Ishmael Ashitey died at the IMAH Hospital on Friday, January 7, 2022, after a short illness. He was 67.

The late Mr. Ashitey served in a couple of roles for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including becoming the party’s Greater Accra Regional Chairman and a former Greater Accra Regional Minister.

According to Dr. Nilba Ashitey, because the Medical Centre is named after her late father, there is going to be extra effort to ensure that the service that the centre delivers to the public is top notch.

This, she explained, is because her late father was a stickler for quality and hated mediocrity.

“We are not going to compromise on the quality of service at all because the name personifying the centre is a colossus who would only insist that quality service be the hallmark of anything that bears his name.” Dr. Nilba Ashitey said.

In attendance at the opening ceremony were many big wigs from all walks of life, especially politics. Among them were NPP stalwarts such Hon. Yohane Amarh Ashitey, Tema MCE, Senior Officers of the Meridian Port Services, Traditional rulers, the clergy, medical practitioners, Assembly members and political party executives.

Also in attendance was Mrs. Emelia Mensah Annang-La, wife of former MCE for Tema, Hon. Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La, who is said to have partnered with the children of the late Mr. Ishmael Ashitey and the current TMA boss to establish the medical centre.

Also in attendance include Hon. Kofi Brako, alias KB, board chairman of TDC and former Mp for Tema Central, Dr. Ernest Kwaku, board chairman of NHIS, Albert Kraku, Tema East npp communications offcer, Dr. Richard Anthony, Administrator of the Tema General Hospital, Lawyer James Enu, Tema West NDC parliamentary Candidate, Mr. Daniel Amarh Mensah, alias Arizona, a businessman, Rev.
