Yaw Buaben condemns alleged attack on Alan’s campaign coordinator in North East

The spokesperson for the Alan Kyerematen campaign, Yaw Buaben Asamoa has condemned an alleged attack on the campaign’s North East regional coordinator.

Ali Zakaria was allegedly attacked after he called out voters for allegedly openly displaying their ballots to the other delegates on the grounds – an action that breaches the party’s provisions and calls for such votes to be rejected.

The Alan campaign coordinator told JoyNews he was beaten by some unidentified delegates who left him with bruises on his face and a swollen eye, necessitating his hospitalisation.

Meanwhile, speaking to media men, Mr Asamoah alleged that the delegates displaying their votes were all voting in favour of Vice President Dr Bawumia, adding that “they have been asked to show the vote.”

He believes the addition of votes from the North East Region to all the overall votes cast is unacceptable because their inclusion mars the election.

He stated that “in Kumasi when the youth organiser did that the vote was invalidated. In the North East, they have beaten our agent and he is in the hospital. They were showing the vote because they were voting for the Vice President. If they add the result it is obviously a public sham.”

“If we all make rules and decide they will not be enforced…and nobody is able to do anything about it, then the result is a sham. The rules say that any ballot shown is invalid. So if you are voting systematically and showing it systematically and the EC is looking on, the police are looking on and our agent is assaulted for protesting then it’s grounds enough to reject the entire result,” Mr Asamoa said.

He called on the leadership of the party to not turn a blind eye to such acts.

The Alan Kyerematen campaign spokesperson also dismissed any claims that calling for the cancellation of the entire result, should the North East ballots be added, is not only unreasonable but also because they fear to lose.

Mr Asamoa reiterated that the special delegates conference is only to help select five candidates for the final conference on November 4.

“There is no victory where you select five people. Those who need it to demonstrate their emptiness are the ones pursuing victory. There is only one true election on November 4.”
